Building a custom home in Omaha.
A plain-language guide from Empire Homes, a custom home builder in Omaha and Bellevue, Nebraska.
Building a custom home is one of the biggest decisions you will make. This guide walks through how the process works with Empire Homes and Remodeling, what to think about before you start, and answers to the questions Omaha homeowners ask us most. Empire is led by Tedd Leas, who brings more than 30 years of experience in home building and residential remodeling.
How custom home building works
- Consultation. We meet in person to talk through your goals, budget, timeline and where you want to build.
- Design. Bring your architect's plans or start from one of our floor plans, then choose your layout, finishes and fixtures.
- Construction. Our licensed, insured team builds with quality materials and proven methods that control cost without cutting corners.
- Move in. We do a final walkthrough together, then hand you the keys.
Your plans or ours
If you already work with an architect, we build your design as drawn and coordinate directly with them. If you are starting fresh, our floor plans give you a proven starting point you can customize, from the kitchen layout to the number of bedrooms and the finishes in every room.
Choosing a lot in the Omaha metro
Before you buy land, look at more than the price. Check the neighborhood covenants, the school district, utility access and how the lot slopes, since a sloped lot can make a walkout basement possible. Empire builds in Omaha and the surrounding communities, and we are happy to look at a lot with you before you commit.
What comes standard in our new construction homes
Our new homes typically include custom cabinets, granite or quartz countertops, designer tile, under-cabinet lighting and low-maintenance exteriors. Many of our homes feature main-floor primary suites, walk-in pantries, drop zones and basements ready to finish.
Remodeling or building new?
If you love your location but your home no longer fits how you live, home remodeling can be the better path. Kitchen and bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, decks and additions can transform a home without moving. If you need a different layout, more space or a fresh start, building a custom home gives you everything designed around you. We do both, so we can give you an honest recommendation.
Where we build and remodel
Empire Homes serves Omaha, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Elkhorn and surrounding communities. Our office is at 706 Harrington Ave in Bellevue, NE.
